Full Stack Engineer

Our product

We’re an early stage startup based out of Boston called NeighborSchools. Our mission is to fix the broken state of child care in the United States by allowing talented educators to make the salaries they deserve and providing parents with affordable options so they don't have to put their careers on hold.

We are accomplishing our mission by helping early childhood educators start daycares/preschools in their homes. Our product is a web platform that:

  • Guides educators through the licensing process

  • Helps educators convert their living space into a teaching space

  • Includes tools for operations, such as expense tracking and attendance tracking

  • Provides profiles where educators can market their programs

  • Allows parents to browse programs and enroll their children

Our team

We’re currently a team of 4:

Brian and Cedric co-led the platform team at InsightSquared as Product Manager and Technical Lead respectively. Brian went on to lead the product team at Catalant and Cedric led development at Scientific Financial Systems before they came back together to start NeighborSchools.

Our engineers

We are building a team of people who:

  • Care about the quality of their code, but can also balance priorities against perfection

  • Think critically about what they are working on and are willing to speak up if they have a new idea

  • Care deeply about the end user experience

  • Have humility and understand that we all write code that may have to be refactored one day after gaining a better understanding of the problem

  • Are eager to learn and grow

Our tech

  • React

  • GraphQL (Apollo Client & Server)

  • AWS

  • Next.js

  • Material UI

  • Node.js

  • Express

  • Prisma

We believe this particular stack is well suited to our problem space because our platform will require dozens of unique pages with a large set of data models, and these technologies excel at scaling horizontally in such a manner.

Our culture

At NeighborSchools, we:

  • Believe it's up to the team, not the management, to define the culture

  • Seek to build an atmosphere where people not only enjoy what they do, but who they do it with

  • Are passionate about our company's mission to improve the state of child care in our country

  • Value each other’s individuality and prefer an inclusive and welcoming workspace

  • Are hardworking, but know how to balance work with other priorities in life

As an early stage company, we haven't fully defined our culture and identity. Any team member that joins will have an instrumental role in that process.
